Karim Rashid Who's Looking Forward

Karim Rashid is an Egyptian/English designer who was rasied in Canada and UK. As his father worked as a painter and a set dresser in television and movie projects, he had been familiar with design since he was liittle and he realized early in life that design is his life mission.

He studied Industrial design at  Carleton University in Ottawa Canada and had his graduate study in Naples, Italy. He interned in Italy under Rodolfo Bonetto, a fanous Italian designer before he opened up his won New York City-based studio in 1993. His clients are world-class brands such as Issey Miyake, Pure Design, Fasem, Guzzini, Tommy Hilfiger, Sony, Zanotta and Citivank. His over 3,000 designs cover all fields from industrial design, architecture, fashion, furniture, art or even music. His work has been placed in permanent  collections of twenty museums and has been exhibited in galleries around the world.

What makes his work outstanding amongst design lovers is his unique and colorful style which he calls "sensual Minimalism" It is no wonder  then that his work usually consists only intergral parts and have no ornaments.

While many designers occasionally face a creativity strain, Karim Rashid never has such a problem. He can "conceive more projects than [his] clients can produce." because he finds inspiration in people. In his opinion, everything he designs is for human exeperience.

His products always reflect his desire to never look back to the past and walk towards the future. His realization of the importance of living in the 'now' drives him to follow trends and technologies. He applies what he learns to his designs and make them reflect the digital age in which we are living now.
